Czechoslovakian Folk Dance

Formation: Double circle, facing LOD, girl on boy's right, inside hands joined, outside hands on hips.

DANCE

Meas. (2 counts per meas.; i.e., 1-16 = 32 counts)

1-16 Sixteen open polka steps around the circle, face-to-face and back-to-back, swinging hands accordingly;

17-32 32 walking steps, gradually moving toward center until each boy can place his left hand on the shoulder of the boy in front on him, keeping his right hand joined with his partner's left. Continue walking in this formation, singing with the music, "La, la, la, la-la, la, la, la "

33-48 Boys face center and clap the following sequence: Own hands twice, then adjoining boys' hands (the right hand out to the boy on the right, the left to the one on the left). (The rhythm is own, own, out, and.) While they are doing this, the girls turn away from their partners and dance 16 solo polka steps around the outside of the circle in RLOD. At the end of the musical phrase, each girl stops behind a boy and he becomes her new partner.

Note: It is customary for extra girls to jump into the outside circle during Meas. 33-48 and steal a partner!
